General Grant is back! One of our most popular programs last year was General Grant (Dr. Curt Fields) giving us the story of the Battle of Vicksburg. We received many positive comments and requests for a return engagement. So we immediately invited him for May of this year.
He will be talking about what happened after the Confederate surrender at Vicksburg. Things were not going well in the East for Union troops under General Rosecrans. They lost the Battle of Chickamauga to Confederate troops under Braxton Bragg and had retreated to Chattanooga. Bragg set up a blockade of the city. Union reinforcements were sent and General Grant was ordered to take command.
General Grant will be talking about his journey to Chattanooga and the results of his efforts in this campaign – breaking the “cracker line” and winning the battles of Lookout Mountain and Missionary Ridge. These victories immediately changed the situation in Georgia and Tennessee and turned out to be some of the most important engagements of the War.
You don’t want to miss this event. It is almost like attending an historically accurate one act play. You will be entertained and informed. See you on the 9th!
